Nguyễn Thanh Bình tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Phùng Chung fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kien Giang's protests and gave Phùng Chung a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Kien Giang's Phùng Chung got a free kick in the 9th minute. Nguyễn Minh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Dong having to interfere. If Nguyễn Chuong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Nguyễn Minh came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Kontum fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Minh couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Liễu Hoa in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nguyễn Thanh Bình saved Kontum from getting behind. If Nguyễn Chuong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 31st minute, Nguyễn Chuong got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Kien Giang's zone, Nguyễn Minh stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Trần Dong came out of the goal and Nguyễn Minh tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 38 minutes, Bùi Hoang mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kontum and the Kien Giang players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 38th minute, one of Kontum:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Kontum. The referee gave Kien Giang a penalty, 39 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Văn Hoang, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Kontum's Nguyễn Thanh Bình. 0-1. Nguyễn Thanh Bình made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nguyễn Chuong in the 42nd minute of play. Liễu Hoa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thanh Bình having to interfere. The supporters of Kontum booed when Kien Giang was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lê Hung didn't get a good kick on the ball. Trần Dong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nguyễn Nga in the 48th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
Trần Dong came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by Kontum's Nguyễn Chi. But to his dismay, Nguyễn Chi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 58th match minute, Kien Giang was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hoàng Pham to maneuver through the defense. Liễu Hoa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 66th minute of the match, but Nguyễn Thanh Bình made a huge save. Trần Dong came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Kontum's Nguyễn Nga. But to his dismay, Nguyễn Nga quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. When Nguyễn Chuong came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Kien Giang fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Chuong couldn't finish the play. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Chuong in the 89th minute of play forced Kontum's goalkeeper Nguyễn Thanh Bình to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hoàng Pham hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Kontum had won after a very even match.
