Nguyễn Van Tai Em's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bùi Than read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. Nguyễn Hoang's late challenge caught a Cao Bang Red Star's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Hoang helped the player get up and apologised. Nguyễn Hoang kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Phùng Loc hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Đoàn Mai showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Đỗ Duc, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomás Sá to make the kick off. A collision led to TT FC getting a freekick after 51 minutes play.
