Đoàn Tuyet was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. leverkusen:s Đoàn Tuyet showed great skill when he stopped Phan Tuan:s penalty. In the 41st minute, Vương Van Quyen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 42 played minutes, Dao Phuong's Phan Tuan shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Đoàn Tuyet came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Dao Phuong reached it. A collision led to leverkusen getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Vũ Cong Vinh hit a great ball. Dao Phuong's Phan Tuan couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 46th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for leverkusen. If Nguyễn Nam had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Vũ Hong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Hieu in the 86th minute of play. 92 minutes into the game, Đặng Thuyet was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dao Phuong's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave leverkusen the free kick. The supporters of leverkusen booed when Dao Phuong was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Đặng Thuyet didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Bien in the 95th minute of play forced leverkusen's goalkeeper Đoàn Tuyet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
