The supporters of bạn bè booed when Vinh Yen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Thien didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Đặng Hong in the 19th minute of play forced Vinh Yen's goalkeeper Nguyễn Huynh Duc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lê Quang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Lê Quang's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wictor Smitt read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. Marcelo Oto took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nguyễn Huynh Duc. Nguyễn Huynh Duc dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Nguyễn Huynh Duc made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lê Diem in the 25th minute. 27 minutes into the match, Vinh Yen's goal looked a bit too open when Lê Minh came free, but Nguyễn Huynh Duc reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute, bạn bè's Kader Oper dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. If Lê Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lê Minh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 46 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Pham was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vinh Yen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave bạn bè the free kick. After 45 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Vinh Yen! Nguyễn Huynh Duc came out of the goal in the 47th minute to try and stop a shot by bạn bè's Đặng Hong. But to his dismay, Đặng Hong quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Huỳnh Nam to make the kick off. When Marcelo Oto came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the bạn bè fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcelo Oto couldn't finish the play. Nguyễn Huynh Duc stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marcelo Oto's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lê Minh in the 59th minute of play forced Vinh Yen's goalkeeper Nguyễn Huynh Duc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nguyễn Huynh Duc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lê Phuong in the 62nd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcelo Oto in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nguyễn Huynh Duc prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nguyễn Hung kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Nguyễn Huynh Duc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lê Diem, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 69 played minutes Vinh Yen got a freekick which was hit by Lê Quang. If Lê Minh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nguyễn Huynh Duc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcelo Oto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 76th minute Lê Diem shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Huynh Duc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Nguyễn Hung fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored bạn bè's protests and gave Nguyễn Hung a yellow card for diving instead. Nguyễn Phong kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Nguyễn Huynh Duc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lê Minh, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute.
