Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 11 minutes into the match, Hillview United's goal looked a bit too open when Gerard Ching came free, but Gabriel Pieng reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 12th minute, one of Hillview United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Hillview United. In the 18th minute, Gerard Ching left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Singapore LionsXII fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Gabriel Pieng took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Azly Seng, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34th match minute, Hillview United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dale Chan to maneuver through the defense. Gabriel Pieng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerard Ching in the 37th minute of play. Gabriel Pieng showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Azly Seng, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. If Amir Siang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Azly Seng in the 47th minute of play forced Hillview United's goalkeeper Gabriel Pieng to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Azly Seng stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gerard Ching could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Gabriel Pieng made a huge save. From close distance Gerard Ching pressed in the 1-3 goal high up into nets stiches in the right cross 55 minutes into the game. Vygandas Legeckas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amir Siang, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Gerard Ching scored 1-4 in the 60th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gabriel Pieng, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 64 minutes in the game, Azly Seng dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Noh Phua sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Farhan Soon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Singapore LionsXII's Azly Seng dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-5. With a little luck, Hillview United's Gabriel Pieng got control of the ball when Gerard Ching tried to sneak it across the goal line. Azly Seng fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gabriel Pieng having to interfere. 90 minutes into the match, Hillview United's goalkeeper Gabriel Pieng had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gerard Ching. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Singapore LionsXII had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
