Yatton United's Hidayat Nair proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Yatton United from getting a goal against them. In the 13th minute, Tan Chuan fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Hidayat Nair, passed just outside the right post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tan Chuan in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hidayat Nair saved Yatton United from getting behind. Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Tan Chuan got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tan Chuan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Hidayat Nair tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Yatton United's Hidayat Nair got control of the ball when Lamar Henderson tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 36 played minutes Yatton United got a freekick which was hit by Shah Chian. After having played for 37 minutes, Lamar Henderson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newcastle-upon-Tyne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lamar Henderson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 38th match minute, Yatton United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Koh to maneuver through the defense. Hidayat Nair made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Noh Ching sent off a good shot on target. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tan Chuan to make the kick off. When Lamar Henderson came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne fans jumped to their feet.
