After having played for 7 minutes, Rochy Haryanto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. PSP Mergojoso's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rochy Haryanto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 16th minute Rochy Haryanto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donny Reza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th match minute, PSP Mergojoso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robbie Kooth to maneuver through the defense. 19 minutes into the game, Andi Yarman threw the ball into play from the sideline. PSP Mergojoso's Ari Sipayung quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Ruslan Ridliwan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sipiongot Subagdja's late challenge caught a PSP Mergojoso's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sipiongot Subagdja helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Sabah's Sipiongot Subagdja got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Rochy Haryanto struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Donny Reza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for PSP Mergojoso. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bongky Sitepu in the 47th minute of play forced PSP Mergojoso's goalkeeper Dian Akmal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bongky Sitepu was the one to do the kick off. PSP Mergojoso's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Uum Ie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1. After 83 played minutes Sabah got a freekick which was hit by Eboy Ginting. Donny Reza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rochy Haryanto in the 84th minute of play. After some careless play in the Sabah defense, Ruslan Ridliwan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Donny Reza. The Sabah fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Donny Reza should have stopped the shot. Sabah's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
