The supporters of Tooloonook booed when Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carson Pearse didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Alfred Owens could shoot a difficult shot in the 16th minute, which Brad Grieve however easily saved by the left post. When Antony Virgin came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antony Virgin couldn't finish the play. Brad Grieve made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Alfred Owens sent off a good shot on target. A hard shot 23 in the game by Alfred Owens from a close distance when the talented Brad Grieve managed to make a qualified save. Tooloonook's players were relieved. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Joshua Byrnes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tooloonook's supporters rose to their feet, but Joshua Byrnes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Barnett Whittington breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Barnett Whittington made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brant Haeberle in the 31st minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Boys's Ellis Forrest slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Brad Grieve. That made the score 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. Alfred Owens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Brant Haeberle stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Brad Grieve showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antony Virgin in the 55th minute of the match. Ellis Forrest hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Tooloonook's Brad Grieve played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edward Digiuseppe in the 64th minute of play. Alfred Owens might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Brad Grieve. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alfred Owens ran back to his position shaking his head. A sloppy throw-in by Carson Pearse in the 69th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Tooloonook's Barnabas Connolly. In the 71st match minute, Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jervis Beverly to maneuver through the defense. A murmur of surprise went through the audience when Tooloonook's Byrne See after having done a couple of nice dribblings in the 73rd minute of the game fired away a shot to his disappointment passed just outside the right post. If Alfred Owens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brad Grieve took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antony Virgin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
