Tomingley Stadium
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Lyrup's Benson Adair started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 2 minutes into the match, Tomingley's Nathan Eicke sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gregory Hollis narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 8th minute, Nathan Eicke fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After a rather tough play, Lyrup's Donovan Atterton got a free kick in the 11th minute. Tomingley's Jamese Howard got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alberto Boston who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 19thth minute tested the skills of Gregory Hollis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The crowd rose to their feet as Tomingley's Nathan Eicke slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gregory Hollis. That made the score 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. If Carlton Reilly had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 26 in the game by Jamese Howard from a close distance when the talented Gregory Hollis managed to make a qualified save. Lyrup's players were relieved. Carlton Reilly received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Gregory Hollis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 29 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Tomingley! Tomingley's Drake Hanslow played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gregory Quinane in the 36th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Tomingley's Gregory Hollis threw himself towards the right post 40 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Nathan Eicke, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a little luck, Lyrup's Gregory Hollis got control of the ball when Jamese Howard tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Carlton Reilly had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 45 minutes into the match, Lyrup's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Boston came free, but Gregory Hollis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tomingley's Carlton Reilly got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Nathan Eicke came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Tomingley fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nathan Eicke couldn't finish the play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nathan Eicke made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Lyrup's zone, Jamese Howard stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gregory Hollis came out of the goal and Jamese Howard tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alberto Boston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Gregory Hollis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gregory Hollis came out of the goal in the 56th minute to try and stop a shot by Tomingley's Jamese Howard. But to his dismay, Jamese Howard quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jamese Howard in the 59th minute of play forced Lyrup's goalkeeper Gregory Hollis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Lyrup's Lucas Grieve got a free kick in the 61st minute. 64 minutes into the game, Donovan Atterton was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lyrup's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tomingley the free kick. In the 64th minute, Donovan Atterton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Carlton Reilly might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gregory Hollis. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carlton Reilly ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind Lyrup's goalkeeper Gregory Hollis, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jamese Howard's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gregory Hollis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. After 69 minutes, Lucas Grieve mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lyrup and the Tomingley players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 71st minute, one of Tomingley:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Tomingley. The goalkeeper, Drake Hanslow, was totally fooled by Lyrup's Arty Ceney, who 72 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. With a little luck, Tomingley's Drake Hanslow got control of the ball when Gregory Quinane tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 77th minute, Alberto Boston left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Tomingley fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. In the 82nd minute, Alberto Boston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jamese Howard in the 88th minute of play forced Lyrup's goalkeeper Gregory Hollis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 90 minutes into the match, Tomingley's Jamese Howard sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gregory Hollis narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Benson Adair received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Drake Hanslow tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 94 minutes into the game, Gregory Quinane cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-3. Drake Hanslow was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alberto Boston in the 99th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gregory Hollis prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tomingley were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
