Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Karl Oneill got the match started through his kick off. After 4 played minutes Melbourne Glory got a freekick which was hit by Ryan Goodward. In the 4th minute of the match Burt Lander shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Otto Durbridge showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Alford Fenwick made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edwin Mewburn in the 7th minute of play. After some careless play in the Petford defense, Brice Arkinstall kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alford Fenwick. The Petford fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alford Fenwick should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Edwin Mewburn put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Alford Fenwick. When John Notley came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Melbourne Glory fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John Notley couldn't finish the play. After 28 minutes, John Notley made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Petford's Alford Fenwick tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Bryce Kaine received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Otto Durbridge tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alford Fenwick showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John Notley in the 36th minute of the match. In the 40th minute John Notley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alford Fenwick saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Karl Oneill fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otto Durbridge having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell John Notley to make the kick off. 59 minutes into the match, Melbourne Glory's John Notley sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alford Fenwick narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 63 minutes into the match, Edwin Mewburn notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Petford's Alford Fenwick. Alford Fenwick was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 66 minutes into the match, Petford's goal looked a bit too open when Edwin Mewburn came free, but Alford Fenwick reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Melbourne Glory's Otto Durbridge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl Oneill in the 68th minute of play. John Notley blasted a shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alford Fenwick having to make a save. Alford Fenwick took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from John Notley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Melbourne Glory's Edwin Mewburn got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Melbourne Glory's Sam Clubley broke free in the 79th minute of the match and struck a powerful long shot that almost became a goal, but instead the ball went outside the right post. An obvious chance of a goal. 83 minutes into the match, Petford's goalkeeper Alford Fenwick had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edwin Mewburn. Edwin Mewburn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edwin Mewburn blasted a shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alford Fenwick having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers John Notley in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alford Fenwick saved Petford from getting behind. When the final whistle sounded Melbourne Glory left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Petford.
