With his leg Olin Paull managed to avoid a goal in the 20thth minute, when Wide Bay Revolution's Nash Mealmaker fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 23 minutes into the game, Yorklea's Brad Domenichetti nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Case Franklin made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 29 minutes into the game, Clay Askew cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Case Franklin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Kevin Natt kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. In the 40th minute of the match Wide Bay Revolution got a corner. Yorklea's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Preston See ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Preston See almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Yorklea's Olin Paull did a great save. With a little luck, Yorklea's Olin Paull got control of the ball when Brynn Munday tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Wide Bay Revolution players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Yorklea were winning 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Clay Askew to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brynn Munday in the 71st minute of play forced Yorklea's goalkeeper Olin Paull to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 73 minutes, Connor Will mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Wide Bay Revolution and the Yorklea players grew even worse after the yellow card.
