In the 38th minute Damon Tencer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karl Wenham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Spuds United booed when York was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcus Palmington didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Damon Tencer in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Karl Wenham saved York from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Boyce Boneheyo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Karl Wenham was relentless in the 46th minute of the game.

In the 59th minute, Alford Beer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Duffield Terris was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. York's supporters rose to their feet, but Alford Beer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Duffield Terris breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. For all the effort they put into the match, the Spuds United players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for York.
