The crowd rose to their feet as Tonga's Andy Johnson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Earnest Wirth. That made the score 1-0 after 13 minutes of play. If Brand Millgate had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 25th minute Brand Millgate shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Earnest Wirth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Andy Johnson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Earnest Wirth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Andy Johnson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Earnest Wirth read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. Jamese Bleazard took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Bonnison, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Andy Johnson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and David Bonnison made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Brand Millgate managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tonga's supporters rose to their feet, but Brand Millgate was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Earnest Wirth breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Earnest Wirth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brand Millgate in the 58th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Cheviot's Norman Egel got a free kick in the 61st minute. After some careless play in the Cheviot defense, Andy Johnson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Earnest Wirth. The Cheviot fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Earnest Wirth should have stopped the shot. After having played for 66 minutes, Andy Johnson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tonga's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andy Johnson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Andy Johnson in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Earnest Wirth prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Brand Millgate fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Earnest Wirth having to interfere. 76 minutes into the match, Tonga's Andy Johnson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Earnest Wirth narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Andy Johnson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 81 played minutes Tonga got a freekick which was hit by Pete Lawrence. 88 minutes into the match, Cheviot's goal looked a bit too open when Brand Millgate came free, but Earnest Wirth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Brand Millgate came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Tonga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brand Millgate couldn't finish the play.
