The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Bernie Surman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reese Holdsworth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Reese Holdsworth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brookong's supporters rose to their feet, but Reese Holdsworth was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bernie Surman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 7 minutes into the match, Brookong's goalkeeper Bran Devere had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Evan Cridland. In the 15th minute, Meruthera's Justin Mcvey ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Bran Devere. Bran Devere yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. 20 minutes in the game, Justin Mcvey fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Bran Devere having to interfere. Bran Devere made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Evan Cridland sent off a good shot on target. If Evan Cridland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the match, Meruthera's goal looked a bit too open when Reese Holdsworth came free, but Bernie Surman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 30 played minutes, Brookong's Byron Starling shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Bernie Surman came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Brookong reached it. After a rather tough play, Brookong's Benjamin Odonahoo got a free kick in the 30th minute. Quincy Harding struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Bernie Surman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Brookong. In the 43rd minute, Benjamin Odonahoo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bran Devere made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Justin Mcvey in the 46th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Justin Mcvey made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Justin Mcvey managed to get in a good position for a shot. Meruthera's supporters rose to their feet, but Justin Mcvey was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bran Devere breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 60 minutes, Justin Mcvey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Meruthera's supporters crossed their fingers, but Justin Mcvey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Evan Cridland's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bran Devere was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. Reese Holdsworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Evan Cridland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bran Devere having to interfere. In the 66thth minute of the game Justin Mcvey who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Brookong's Bran Devere was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 68 minutes into the match, Brookong's goal looked a bit too open when Justin Mcvey came free, but Bran Devere reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 2-0 became the score in the 71st minute when Evan Cridland elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Davey Guy's late challenge caught a Brookong's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Davey Guy helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Meruthera's Davey Guy got a free kick in the 77th minute. Quincy Harding took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bernie Surman. Bernie Surman dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Bran Devere took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Evan Cridland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Evan Cridland received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Bran Devere tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Justin Mcvey came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Meruthera fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Justin Mcvey couldn't finish the play.
