Arne Reiter made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Charles Snabl in the 23rd minute of play. Dante Anders sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 27 played minutes Esk got a freekick which was hit by Kane Freeman. After a defensive mix-up in Esk's zone, Dante Anders stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Burt Houldsworth came out of the goal and Dante Anders tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 34thth minute of the game Charles Snabl who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hunter Valley FC's Arne Reiter was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Dante Anders blasted a shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Burt Houldsworth having to make a save. Earnest Stevens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dante Anders made a kick off. When Earnest Stevens came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Hunter Valley FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Earnest Stevens couldn't finish the play. Esk's Burt Houldsworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dante Anders in the 55th minute of play. The supporters of Hunter Valley FC booed when Esk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dale Hardiman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mark Norden took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 60th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Burt Houldsworth. Esk's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 61st minute Dante Anders shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Burt Houldsworth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Barney Kennewell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Arne Reiter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Hunter Valley FC's Arne Reiter got control of the ball when Barney Kennewell tried to sneak it across the goal line. Hunter Valley FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 81 played minutes Hunter Valley FC got a freekick which was hit by Ozzie Block. If Barney Kennewell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Esk's Barney Kennewell got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Charles Snabl sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Charles Snabl kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Arne Reiter. That made the score 0-1 in the 93 minute of play.
