After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Rodd Powell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Perth Glory's supporters rose to their feet, but Rodd Powell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. A very good chance. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ootha's goalkeeper Duncan Alcock, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Ootha getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Paz Howard hit a great ball. Gregg Jeffress kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Tom Grieve showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paz Howard in the 30th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rodd Powell in the 41st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Duncan Alcock prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Benny Veitch fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ootha's protests and gave Benny Veitch a yellow card for diving instead. After 46 played minutes Ootha got a freekick which was hit by Benny Veitch. In the 49th minute Benny Veitch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tom Grieve saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After 55 played minutes Perth Glory got a freekick which was hit by Randall Alchin. The supporters of Perth Glory booed when Ootha was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Murphy Flesfader didn't get a good kick on the ball.
