Chuck Collings showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edgar Calver, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Hackham's zone, Michael Markwell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Abe Andrusiow came out of the goal and Michael Markwell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The supporters of Geelong FC 1864 booed when Hackham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dane Cubit didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rudolph Flisfeder in the 81st minute of play forced Geelong FC 1864's goalkeeper Chuck Collings to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Evan Crawford in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Chuck Collings saved Geelong FC 1864 from getting behind. The Hackham fans' excitement grew in the 84th match minute when Hackham's Rudolph Flisfeder looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Evan Crawford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chuck Collings came out of the goal in the 89th minute to try and stop a shot by Hackham's Lawrence Bowie. But to his dismay, Lawrence Bowie quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0.
