Sydney FC's Berry Huther played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bo Norman in the 19th minute of play. Winterbourne's Charles Fordham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Samuel Locke in the 20th minute of play. Raymond Serena received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Charles Fordham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 30 played minutes Winterbourne got a freekick which was hit by Damon Spurr. If Bo Norman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 37 minutes, Bo Norman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Winterbourne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bo Norman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hans Whitsitt hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The Winterbourne fans' excitement grew in the 48th match minute when Winterbourne's Benedict Addison looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Samuel Locke made the kick off in the second half. Antony Hogan hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hans Whitsitt during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Hans Whitsitt hit a great ball. Winterbourne's Bo Norman got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Sydney FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Benedict Addison fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Jamie Carlisle hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. After 70 played minutes, Winterbourne's Andrews Boneheyo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Berry Huther came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Winterbourne reached it. Sydney FC's Samuel Locke got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Berry Huther made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. In the 94th minute, Bo Norman left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Winterbourne fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. Jarvis Collins shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Winterbourne played a much better game than Sydney FC and deserved their victory. The Sydney FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
