The supporters of Gold Coast Ghosts FC booed when Melbourne City FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bishop Quinane didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 7th minute the ball was on its way in behind Melbourne City FC's goalkeeper Buck Leydin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 7th minute, Tony Cuddihy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Buck Leydin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ernest Ashby in the 14th minute of the match. Rafa Cabral struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Cregan Duggan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Melbourne City FC. Buck Leydin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bock Peach, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dan Sedgman made a kick off. If Bock Peach had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dan Sedgman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Buck Leydin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bradshaw Cudmore in the 61st minute of the match. Bishop Quinane hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Ernest Ashby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buck Leydin having to interfere. A collision led to Melbourne City FC getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Boyd Gaffigan hit a great ball. 76 minutes into the match, Ernest Ashby dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Buck Leydin, 0-3. Melbourne City FC's Buck Leydin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrews Moorby in the 91st minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Gold Coast Ghosts FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
