Spectators: 8452 (Terracing: 6340, Seating: 1943, VIP seats: 169) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Murphey Muddle took the kick off in the first half of the match. 7 minutes into the match, Maitland's goal looked a bit too open when Murphey Muddle came free, but Britton Oconnell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute, Payton Hamilton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Randell Malacarne was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Britton Oconnell was a little too slow when Bryant Cudmore got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 20th minute. The score was now 1-1. Britton Oconnell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Murphey Muddle in the 23rd minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Iggi Wenham was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Maitland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Glenferrie the free kick. After 23 played minutes Maitland got a freekick which was hit by Iggi Wenham. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Murphey Muddle in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Britton Oconnell saved Maitland from getting behind. In the 26th minute Murphey Muddle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Britton Oconnell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Maitland's goalkeeper Britton Oconnell had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Murphey Muddle. In the 31st minute, Dalton Norman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot 33 in the game by Murphey Muddle from a close distance when the talented Britton Oconnell managed to make a qualified save. Maitland's players were relieved. In the 35th minute, one of Maitland:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Maitland. Iggi Wenham's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Randell Malacarne read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. If Andrew Minter had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andrew Minter hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Britton Oconnell made an important save on a dangerous shot by Murphey Muddle in the 48th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Payton Hamilton was the one to do the kick off. Glenferrie made a substitution. Alfred Obrien replaced Lorimer Crapp. Payton Hamilton hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Carmichael Cootes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Britton Oconnell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carmichael Cootes, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Murphey Muddle managed to get in a good position for a shot. Glenferrie's supporters rose to their feet, but Murphey Muddle was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Britton Oconnell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Carmichael Cootes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Britton Oconnell having to interfere. Maitland's attentive Rex Mcinnes managed to snatch the ball when Ray Bridson made a throw-in in the 72nd minute of the game. Britton Oconnell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bryant Cudmore in the 75th minute of play. Britton Oconnell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carmichael Cootes, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Britton Oconnell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Murphey Muddle in the 77th minute of play. In the 79th match minute, Maitland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Iggi Wenham to maneuver through the defense. In the 80th minute of the match Broderick Johnston shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Britton Oconnell showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 81 minutes into the match, Carmichael Cootes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Britton Oconnell. Maitland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carmichael Cootes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. 88 minutes into the game, Ray Bridson threw the ball into play from the sideline. Maitland's Payton Hamilton quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. If Payton Hamilton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murphey Muddle in the 93rd minute of play forced Maitland's goalkeeper Britton Oconnell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Glenferrie's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
