The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nichol Heys showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rudy Limmer in the 4th minute of the match. The supporters of Wietalaba booed when Pinnaroo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nathan Huther didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bernard Babbage in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nichol Heys saved Pinnaroo from getting behind. Jared Maddern charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jared Maddern the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Wietalaba made a substitution. Bradshaw Gavin replaced Arthur Gray. Nichol Heys took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudy Limmer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After 70 minutes, Ernest Trevena mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Pinnaroo and the Wietalaba players grew even worse after the yellow card.
