Ian de Godoi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Jonty Starling made a huge save. The audience was convinced that Ian de Godoi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonty Starling was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. In the 8th minute, Liverpool East FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after EdmÃlson Mamais fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Ritchie Tarrats struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Jonty Starling didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Maribyrnong FC. In the 15th minute, Navin Starling hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 20 minutes into the match, Liverpool East FC's goalkeeper Jonty Starling had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ian de Godoi. After some careless play in the Maribyrnong FC defense, Martyon Lorenz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Berny Holdsworth. The Maribyrnong FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Berny Holdsworth should have stopped the shot. Jonty Starling didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ian de Godoi went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Maribyrnong FC's zone, Martyon Lorenz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Berny Holdsworth came out of the goal and Martyon Lorenz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Berny Holdsworth didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Liverpool East FC's Martyon Lorenz shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-2 in the ordered_time% minute. After 40 minutes, Edgar Keayes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Maribyrnong FC and the Liverpool East FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee gave Liverpool East FC a penalty, 41 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Elias Bogren, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Maribyrnong FC's Berny Holdsworth. 1-3. Berny Holdsworth came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Liverpool East FC's Stephan Wivell. But to his dismay, Stephan Wivell quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Ian de Godoi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Jonty Starling tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-4 lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Martyon Lorenz was the one to do the kick off. When Maribyrnong FC's Ian de Godoi in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Liverpool East FC's goalie prevented a goal. 61 minutes into the game, Liverpool East FC's Martyon Lorenz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Berny Holdsworth made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. Stephan Wivell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Berny Holdsworth having to interfere. Carleton Lewry hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. After having played for 68 minutes, Ian de Godoi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maribyrnong FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ian de Godoi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Berny Holdsworth came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Liverpool East FC's Brandon Kaine. But to his dismay, Brandon Kaine quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ian de Godoi in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonty Starling prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jonty Starling took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian de Godoi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ian de Godoi in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonty Starling saved Liverpool East FC from getting behind. In the 80th minute EdmÃlson Mamais shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonty Starling saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 83 minutes into the match, Stephan Wivell had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Berny Holdsworth. Maribyrnong FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Stephan Wivell was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-7. Donovan Hogan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Berny Holdsworth having to interfere. Maribyrnong FC's Berny Holdsworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martyon Lorenz in the 91st minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Liverpool East FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ian de Godoi came free, but Jonty Starling reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Liverpool East FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Liverpool East FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
