Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after Sarmiento de Resistencia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. After some careless play in the Sarmiento de Resistencia defense, Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tobias Elizardo. The referee showed Arias Fabelo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In a very dangerous position, a player in Sarmiento de Resistencia fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 37th minute. Penalty! Tobias Elizardo had in the 39thth minute some difficulties stopping Gijsbert ter Kruimer's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Gijsbert ter Kruimer scored 0-3 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tobias Elizardo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 41st minute David Eikelkamp shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tobias Elizardo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 45 minutes into the match, Sarmiento de Resistencia's Martin Rito sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arnout Reekers narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

After 69 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Gust Ennemans. Martin Rito struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Arnout Reekers didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sarmiento de Resistencia. After having played for 73 minutes, Martin Rito managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sarmiento de Resistencia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Martin Rito was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Sarmiento de Resistencia's Tobias Elizardo got control of the ball when Wim Wilmes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Tobias Elizardo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
