To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Denmark's Keld Paulsen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zeng Zhen in the 25th minute of play. Zeng Zhen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Keld Paulsen read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Denmark's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Liu Jian Qiang was slow to take the kick.
