Hungary's supporters crossed their fingers, but Antal Valentin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Martyon Diehl didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Antal Valentin went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 16th minute Katona Janos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martyon Diehl saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 29 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Carlisle Fenwick sped through Hungary's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Fodor Daniel. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Carlisle Fenwick made a kick off.
