A collision led to Germany getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Willy Stieler hit a great ball. 34 minutes into the match, Germany's goal looked a bit too open when Petrică Oproiu came free, but Tommy Kahn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 35th minute FENERBAHÇE were awarded a corner. Afşin Temcit went to the cornerflag to take it. 38 minutes into the match, Germany's goalkeeper Tommy Kahn had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Serhan Mehmet. Germany's Tommy Kahn proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Germany from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Sachs in the 46th minute of play forced FENERBAHÇE's goalkeeper Frutos Laserna to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Petrică Oproiu made the kick off in the second half. Germany's attentive Linus Schwerner managed to snatch the ball when Serhan Mehmet made a throw-in in the 54th minute of the game. In the 56th minute Petrică Oproiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommy Kahn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tommy Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serhan Mehmet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tommy Kahn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serhan Mehmet in the 59th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Petrică Oproiu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FENERBAHÇE's supporters rose to their feet, but Petrică Oproiu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Kahn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Frank Sachs hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. In the 62nd minute, Petrică Oproiu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FENERBAHÇE fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Frank Sachs recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Germany's Tommy Kahn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Serhan Mehmet in the 72nd minute of play. When the match clock showed 73 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Frank Sachs sped through FENERBAHÇE's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Frutos Laserna. FENERBAHÇE made a substitution. Korkutalp Koca replaced Petrică Oproiu. Albin Holweck was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 78th minute. Germany's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Frutos Laserna showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frank Sachs in the 81st minute of the match. Frank Sachs received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Frutos Laserna came out and tried to block the shot, but Frank Sachs slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 83rd minute. Hakkı Deniz Öztimur fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tommy Kahn having to interfere.
