But to his dismay, Edward Vanderstraeten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Lenny Clocheret's late challenge caught a göztepe gençlik's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lenny Clocheret helped the player get up and apologised. Lenny Clocheret hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. Mustafa Anıl Ahıska kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edward Vanderstraeten in the 16th minute of play forced göztepe gençlik's goalkeeper Vatan Necmi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Türkeş Kadem kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. The supporters of Belgium booed when göztepe gençlik was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ergün Ferikoğlu didn't get a good kick on the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Ünal Çetinay notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Belgium's Casper Claes. Casper Claes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Vatan Necmi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Casper Claes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ünal Çetinay, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in göztepe gençlik's zone, Edward Vanderstraeten stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vatan Necmi came out of the goal and Edward Vanderstraeten tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vatan Necmi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Edward Vanderstraeten in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vatan Necmi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Casper Claes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ünal Çetinay in the 42nd minute. göztepe gençlik's Ergün Ferikoğlu managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Floris Claeys in the 45 minute of the game. Edward Vanderstraeten hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ünal Çetinay was the one to do the kick off. 62 minutes into the game, Ünal Çetinay cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Casper Claes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 68th match minute, göztepe gençlik was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Francisco Borda to maneuver through the defense. When Ünal Çetinay came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the göztepe gençlik fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ünal Çetinay couldn't finish the play. Vatan Necmi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Vanderstraeten in the 83rd minute of the match. Mehdi Ongay hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edward Vanderstraeten got free with Vatan Necmi in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. göztepe gençlik's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
