Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kerry Sellers to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sid Chadwick in the 88th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 90th minute of the match C. A. Independiente got a corner. Netherlands's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tommie Bolton ran over to the corner to take the kick. C. A. Many of Netherlands's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Netherlands may have spent more time on the ball, but C. A. Independiente were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
