Hungary's Fodor Daniel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Hungary from getting a goal against them. Major Barna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 28th minute, Major Barna ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Major Barna in the 34th minute of the match. Valadas's Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Major Barna in the 39th minute of play. In the 43rd minute Balazs Lajos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 45th minute of the match, Takeshi Schims got a very nice opportunity to score, but Fodor Daniel was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 46 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Hungary's Antal Valentin fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nuno Cunha stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Antal Valentins short, quick shot in the 51stth minute got Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Fodor Daniel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. 63 minutes into the game, Leal Malafaia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Valadas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hungary the free kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 63rd minute of the game. One of Valadas:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Hungary:s goal. Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel had in the 64thth minute some difficulties stopping Antal Valentin's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Antal Valentin made a great header on Hungary's corner, it was just that Valadas's Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel managed to reach the ball for a save. Gerd-Peter Meiswinkel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Takacs Tibor in the 69th minute of play. 75 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Hermínio Bomba came free, but Fodor Daniel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 77th minute, Hermínio Bomba ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fodor Daniel was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1.
