The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Anak Selby in the 4th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Flavio Vittori prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tạ I showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zaccheo Andolina, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Italy's attentive Siricio Liotta managed to snatch the ball when Wieslaw Smuskiewicz made a throw-in in the 8th minute of the game. In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 15th minute Anak Selby shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Vittori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zaccheo Andolina to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Porziano Marchitelli in the 54th minute of play forced Begu Ganjang's goalkeeper Tạ I to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Siricio Liotta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tạ I having to interfere. If Zaccheo Andolina had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tạ I showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zaccheo Andolina in the 64th minute of the match. Anak Selby's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Flavio Vittori read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. Begu Ganjang made a substitution. David Trezeguet replaced Anak Selby. After a rather tough play, Italy's Sostene Vitulli got a free kick in the 72nd minute. In the 73rd minute, Sostene Vitulli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Begu Ganjang's Manuel Aurelianu couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 74th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Italy. After having played for 85 minutes, Zaccheo Andolina managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Italy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zaccheo Andolina was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Italy's Guiscardo Davide was substituted for Sigfrido Auletta. Italy's Sansone Vanella was substituted for Gianpaolo Mascari. Despite being the better team, Italy failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
