In the 28th minute, Felipe Barreto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lars Batzer was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Portugal's Wilson Amorim proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Portugal from getting a goal against them. 32 minutes into the match, Carqueja's goal looked a bit too open when Felipe Barreto came free, but Lars Batzer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Portugal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carqueja the free kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 84th minute of the game. One of Portugal:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Carqueja:s goal.
