In the 18th match minute, Du Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jonathan da Cunha to maneuver through the defense. Du Esporte Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sílvio Costa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Frank Sachs received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Markus Pflüger came out and tried to block the shot, but Frank Sachs slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 75th minute. Tommy Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sílvio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 80 minutes, Adrian Dreifuss mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Germany and the Du Esporte Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card. Tommy Kahn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sílvio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute.
