In the 27th minute, Frank Sachs ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jorginho Vaz was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Germany's Frank Sachs got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tommy Kahn made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when 任浩默 sent off a good shot on target. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Tommy Kahn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 任浩默 in the 63rd minute of the match. Holger Zachrisson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 72 minutes into the match, 任浩默 had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tommy Kahn. Germany's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that 任浩默 was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2.
