Valdir Velloso could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. Charles Björkqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lars Meesters in the 30th minute of play. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for John Eriksson to strike the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Here Comes the Hammer's Charles Björkqvist got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. Here Comes the Hammer's Carlinhos Félix was substituted for Valdir Velloso. After 73 minutes Here Comes the Hammer's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gijsbert ter Kruimer who took care of the corner kick. Lars Meesters sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. Netherlands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
