The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Rhys Dimmock took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lars Meesters, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zamalek FC's Rhys Dimmock played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 15th minute of play. In the 17th minute, one of Zamalek FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Zamalek FC. Rhys Dimmock had in the 18thth minute some difficulties stopping Gijsbert ter Kruimer's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The supporters of Zamalek FC booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mathijn Doctor didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Netherlands defense, Tytus Banaszak kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. The Netherlands fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arnout Reekers should have stopped the shot. Netherlands's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
