Portugal's Wilson Amorim proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save Portugal from getting a goal against them. Dante Llope had several of the Portugal's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 12 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Wilson Amorim as he didn't even see the shot coming. A throw-in in the 17th minute of the game was made by John Metgod with Łukasz Piszczek as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. In the 32nd minute, Antonello Marcon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wilson Amorim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wladyslaw Debowy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The crowd rose to their feet as Portugal's Bartolomeu Dias slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Osa Ossa. That made the score 3-2 after 92 minutes of play. Raul Caetano kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. If Wladyslaw Debowy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Portugal's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
