Zaccheo Andolina's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Heyckendorf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. Zena Busacca lost his temper 13 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 12th minute, one of Italy:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Italy. Alex Mansilha scored 1-0 in the 14th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Flavio Vittori, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 17 played minutes Academica Pulheim got a freekick which was hit by Simon Beuke. Ole Pankok kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. Flavio Vittori made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Kurt Ahrem sent off a good shot on target. In the 28th minute Joachim Kretschmer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Vittori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joachim Kretschmer in the 31st minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Paul Heyckendorf showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Porziano Marchitelli in the 33rd minute of the match. After 34 minutes Academica Pulheim's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Sigfrido Auletta who took care of the corner kick. Kurt Ahrem fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Flavio Vittori having to interfere. Italy's Siricio Liotta quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Simon Beuke, made in the 39th minute of the game. In the 40th minute, Sigfrido Auletta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 41 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Alex Mansilha came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Simon Beuke in the 42nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Italy's Siricio Liotta.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sigfrido Auletta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Academica Pulheim made a substitution. Maxime Vrints replaced Lutz Golke. After a rather tough play, Italy's Gomberto Picozzi got a free kick in the 61st minute. Academica Pulheim's Zbigniew Setara was substituted for Joachim Kretschmer.
