In the 23rd minute Lars Meesters shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norberto Renteria saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 27th minute of play forced De Ontembare Leeuwen's goalkeeper Norberto Renteria to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 27 minutes into the game, Gustaaf Groeneveldt cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Gijsbert ter Kruimer struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Norberto Renteria didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Sander Spoel might have been able to make a better finish in the 51st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arnout Reekers. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sander Spoel ran back to his position shaking his head. Wim Wilmes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Norberto Renteria tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 55th minute, Gijsbert ter Kruimer made a precise shot to the right of Norberto Renteria. De Ontembare Leeuwen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Netherlands's Wim Wilmes slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Norberto Renteria. That made the score 2-4 after 68 minutes of play. 73 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Jacco Hoving came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Netherlands's Bas Tuitert quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Daniël Jongsma, made in the 74th minute of the game. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in De Ontembare Leeuwen's zone, Wim Wilmes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Norberto Renteria came out of the goal and Wim Wilmes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 81st minute, Netherlands's David Eikelkamp ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Norberto Renteria. Norberto Renteria yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-5. Norberto Renteria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 85th minute of play. Norberto Renteria made an important save on a dangerous shot by Wim Wilmes in the 88th minute. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the ball and in the 89 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Norberto Renteria. Norberto Renteria dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-6. Wim Wilmes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kevin Newman in the 95th minute of the match. Netherlands's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
