Italy were awarded a corner in the 46th minute after Barcelona de América's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Sigfrido Auletta took the corner. The corner led Italy's Gianpaolo Mascari to fire away a dangerous shot which Gilmar Quadros despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

With an all-out effort, Italy's Gilmar Quadros threw himself towards the right post 79 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Zaccheo Andolina, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 81st minute, Zayvion Ispuzua ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Flavio Vittori was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Italy's Sansone Vanella was substituted for Gianpaolo Mascari. Italy's Guiscardo Davide was substituted for Sigfrido Auletta. When the match had gone on for 89 minutes, Adriano Curto took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Gilmar Quadros to make any attempt to save it. Gilmar Quadros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adriano Curto in the 91st minute of the match. Italy's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
