Adolfo Moreira came out of the goal and Antal Valentin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Hungary booed when SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 15th minute Antal Valentin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Adolfo Moreira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hungary's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Antal Valentin in the 17th minute. The corner ended in Antal Valentin almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's Adolfo Moreira did a great save. Hungary's Fodor Daniel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Hungary from getting a goal against them. Hungary's Major Barna got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Major Barna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Laureano Benevides hit a great ball. In the 47th minute SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA were awarded a corner. Basílio Maciel went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's corner Basílio Maciel fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fodor Daniel quite easily take care of the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Claudio Cina made a kick off. Major Barna's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Adolfo Moreira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. In the 71st minute, Antal Valentin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hungary fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's Nuno Quental was substituted for Viriato Manso. SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claudio Cina was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The SPORT LISBOA E BENFICA fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Hungary were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
