Udinese was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Corrado Falasca to maneuver through the defense. Alvaro Rotili made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wim Wilmes in the 15th minute of play. In the 16th minute, Netherlands's Bas Tuitert seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Bas Tuitert the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Netherlands protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Bas Tuitert had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The supporters of A.S. Udinese booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gust Ennemans didn't get a good kick on the ball. A.S. Udinese's Corrado Falasca managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Gust Ennemans in the 30 minute of the game. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alessio Zoccali in the 34th minute of the match. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind A.S. Udinese's goalkeeper Alvaro Rotili, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Gijsbert ter Kruimer hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Alberigo Di Franco managed to get in a good position for a shot. A.S. Udinese's supporters rose to their feet, but Alberigo Di Franco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnout Reekers breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gust Ennemans kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. With his leg Arnout Reekers managed to avoid a goal in the 42ndth minute, when A.S. Udinese's Alexander Bottone fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The supporters of A.S. Udinese booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gust Ennemans didn't get a good kick on the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Alvaro Rotili didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wim Wilmes went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Gustaaf Groeneveldt scored 1-3 in the 57th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alvaro Rotili, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A.S. Udinese's Merexildo Oliveras was substituted for Augusto Clemente. A.S. Udinese's Alexander Damiani was substituted for Corrado Falasca.
