Italy's Porziano Marchitelli got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Slavyan Mechkuev in the 44th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ignacio Alvarez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Flavio Vittori having to make a save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Zaccheo Andolina made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Ignacio Alvarez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Vittori saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ignacio Alvarez struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Flavio Vittori didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GARGOYLES. The throw-in from Afonsinho Fernandes in the 71st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Italy's Eliseo Cutri. When Zaccheo Andolina came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Italy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zaccheo Andolina couldn't finish the play. In the 74th minute the ball was on its way in behind Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Italy made a substitution. Sansone Vanella replaced Gianpaolo Mascari. Italy's Guiscardo Davide was substituted for Sigfrido Auletta.
