The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edward Vanderstraeten scored 1-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vicky Donda, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Belgium's attentive Floris Claeys managed to snatch the ball when Americo Javiar made a throw-in in the 35th minute of the game. The audience was convinced that Tord Söderqvist's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Casper Claes was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. Casper Claes made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Tord Söderqvist sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Belgium getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Yves Dervaux hit a great ball.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tord Söderqvist stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Edward Vanderstraeten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 58 minutes into the match, Tord Söderqvist had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Casper Claes. Belgium's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tord Söderqvist was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edward Vanderstraeten got free with Vicky Donda in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 91 minutes into the match, Rıfkı Erdönmez had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Casper Claes. Belgium's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rıfkı Erdönmez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-4. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
