Adam Pyczkowski hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Jaramillo Amundarain could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 37th minute of play forced Sporting Angola's goalkeeper Freddy Sein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Freddy Sein took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lars Meesters, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Jaramillo Amundarain had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 47 minutes into the match, Wim Wilmes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Freddy Sein. Sporting Angola's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wim Wilmes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jaramillo Amundarain made a kick off. Gust Ennemans kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. 57 minutes into the match, Sporting Angola's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Freddy Sein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 60 minutes into the game, Gust Ennemans threw the ball into play from the sideline. Sporting Angola's Modesto Primo quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. A collision led to Sporting Angola getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Cristiano Del Monaco hit a great ball. Sporting Angola's Freddy Sein proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Sporting Angola from getting a goal against them. In the 63rd minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. Sporting Angola's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran over to the corner to take the kick. Gustaaf Groeneveldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Freddy Sein having to interfere. Lars Meesters kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaramillo Amundarain, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. In the 77th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Freddy Sein saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 85th minute, Bas Tuitert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Sporting Angola booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bas Tuitert didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 88 played minutes, Sporting Angola's Modesto Primo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Arnout Reekers came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting Angola reached it. After 89 minutes Netherlands's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Modesto Primo who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Sporting Angola's corner Modesto Primo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Arnout Reekers quite easily take care of the ball. After having played for 93 minutes, Wim Wilmes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wim Wilmes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match was over Netherlands could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Sporting Angola throughout the match.
