An unexpectedly hard shot by Florentin Gougeon in the 3rd minute of play forced Guanacos's goalkeeper Celso Frutos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 6 minutes of play, Valencia C.F.'s Florentin Gougeon made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Celso Frutos was left in no man's land by his defense there! 8 minutes into the game, Javi Guerra was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Valencia C.F.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Guanacos the free kick. Arnoldo Quentin made in the 10th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Valencia C.F.'s Javi Guerra. Celso Frutos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Florentin Gougeon in the 14th minute of the match. In the 14th match minute, Guanacos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anacleto Sanduru to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute, Anacleto Sanduru hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute Florentin Gougeon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Celso Frutos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celso Frutos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Moreno in the 23rd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Florentin Gougeon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Celso Frutos was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. Anacleto Sanduru hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Andoni Zubizarreta made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.
Valencia C.F.'s Andoni Zubizarreta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Genaro Tebaldo in the 51st minute of play. Florentin Gougeon could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Celso Frutos made a huge save. Prospero Guzman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Andoni Zubizarreta read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play. The supporters of Guanacos booed when Valencia C.F. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
