Ruperto Maria took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 16 minutes had been played when some careless play by Salmuera CP's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. The corner led to Netherlands's Egbert Nijveldt getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fan Xing Zhou, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Netherlands's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Costin Duca was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-1.
