Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Arnout Reekers made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Adi Jusufović sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 19th minute of play forced FK Željezničar's goalkeeper Grigoris Koufakis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute Netherlands were awarded a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Lars Meesters almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but FK Željezničar's Grigoris Koufakis did a great save. FK Željezničar's Grigoris Koufakis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, FK Željezničar's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Grigoris Koufakis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caetano Costa in the 25th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 27th minute of play forced FK Željezničar's goalkeeper Grigoris Koufakis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Nelson Mandela tried to sneak it across the goal line. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Netherlands's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Adi Jusufović was slow to take the kick. During this time FK Željezničar's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 39th minute of play forced FK Željezničar's goalkeeper Grigoris Koufakis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to FK Željezničar getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Ibrahim Veizović hit a great ball. Wim Wilmes blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Grigoris Koufakis having to make a save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nelson Mandela made a kick off. Grigoris Koufakis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 53rd minute of the match. After 54 played minutes FK Željezničar got a freekick which was hit by Ibrahim Veizović. 57 minutes into the match, FK Željezničar's Adi Jusufović sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arnout Reekers narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 58th minute FK Željezničar were awarded a corner. Adi Jusufović went to the cornerflag to take it. Grigoris Koufakis made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 66th minute of play forced FK Željezničar's goalkeeper Grigoris Koufakis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 68th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Grigoris Koufakis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 70 minutes into the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Grigoris Koufakis, 0-1. Wim Wilmes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Grigoris Koufakis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 82th minute after FK Željezničar's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Gijsbert ter Kruimer got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Grigoris Koufakis quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In a very dangerous position, a player in FK Željezničar fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 87th minute. Penalty! When the match had been going on for 88 minutes, Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Grigoris Koufakis. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adi Jusufović, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. In the 95th minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nelson Mandela hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Netherlands's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
