An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Sachs in the 3rd minute of play forced Santiago Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Anton Hurezeanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 4th minute of the match Carlos Santana shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tommy Kahn showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Santiago Futebol Clube's Christiano de Queirós got a free kick in the 5th minute. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Santiago Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Anton Hurezeanu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 12 minutes into the game, Christiano de Queirós was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Santiago Futebol Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Germany the free kick. After 12 played minutes Santiago Futebol Clube got a freekick which was hit by Christiano de Queirós. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cauan Favoretto got free with Tommy Kahn in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lorenzo Santa María struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Tommy Kahn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santiago Futebol Clube. Tommy Kahn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lorenzo Santa María in the 21st minute of play. The supporters of Santiago Futebol Clube booed when Germany was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albin Holweck didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 29 played minutes Germany got a freekick which was hit by Frank Sachs. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Lorenzo Santa María managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santiago Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Lorenzo Santa María was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Kahn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cauan Favoretto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Tommy Kahn made a huge save. A collision led to Santiago Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Cauan Favoretto hit a great ball. Enrique Arósio hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The supporters of Germany booed when Santiago Futebol Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ove Ödman didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 63rd minute, Christiano de Queirós hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lorenzo Santa María in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tommy Kahn prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 76 minutes into the game, Lorenzo Santa María cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Tommy Kahn was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Santiago Futebol Clube made a substitution. Arlindo Ramos replaced Carlos Santana. Tommy Kahn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cauan Favoretto, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Santiago Futebol Clube's Quintin Scheiber got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Lorenzo Santa María came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Santiago Futebol Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lorenzo Santa María couldn't finish the play.
