The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Belgium's zone, Niklas Lundqvist stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Casper Claes came out of the goal and Niklas Lundqvist tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marcos Basso was out of position in the 8 minute of play, and Edward Vanderstraeten capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Edward Vanderstraeten really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Herbert Holmgren hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Marcos Basso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edward Vanderstraeten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Casper Claes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Niklas Lundqvist's shot from short distance in the 28th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edward Vanderstraeten in the 30th minute of play forced The Shadows's goalkeeper Marcos Basso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, The Shadows's Karl-Åke Andreasson got a free kick in the 34th minute. Marcos Basso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Yves Dervaux in the 37th minute.
