But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Greger Ahlroht couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, MARADONA PINAKAMALAKI's Nils-Åke Pihlblad got a free kick in the 21st minute. In the 23rd minute, Toni Mauzer left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Croatia fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Patrik Terzic kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Croatia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Damir Pongrac was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eric Skarkman in the 45th minute of play forced Croatia's goalkeeper Ilija Skugor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Neven Culina sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Croatia's Martin Bosak got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Damir Pongrac struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Urban Lund didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Croatia. With a little luck, MARADONA PINAKAMALAKI's Urban Lund got control of the ball when Toni Mauzer tried to sneak it across the goal line.
